Chimdo Anchala (PhD)
SENIOR DIRECTOR, PRODUCTION AND PRODUCTIVITY
Dr. Chimdo Anchala is the Senior Director of Production & Productivity Projects vertical. In this role Dr. Chimdo is responsible for supervising and managing the Directors of the various Production and Productivity projects within the ATA in order to ensure that high quality deliverables and outputs are created within each project, in line with the ATA’s overall goals.
Prior to joining the ATA, Dr. Chimdo embarked his career in the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research where he worked for about 16 years with key responsibilities and progressive leadership roles. Dr. Chimdo spearheaded Farmers Research Group (FRG) and Farmers Research and Extension Groups (FREGs) concepts and Community Based Informal Seed Systems that are currently embedded into the extension system. He too led a multimillion World Bank, UNDP, FAO and CIDA partnered projects like Rural Capacity Building Project (RCBP) that footholds the designing of Agricultural Growth Program (AGP). Moreover, while working for Oxfam America, Chimdo successfully directed the ‘Strengthening of Ethiopian Agricultural Extension System and ‘Improving Smallholder Agricultural Productivity, BMGF and AGRA funded national projects, respectively, for five years. He has also made immense efforts in familiarizing the Digital Green approach to Ethiopia’s extension system where he served as deputy country Director, Director of agricultural extension policy and strategy for east African countries; senior level Ethiopia Leadership Group. Since 2014, Dr. Chimdo has also been serving as a president for Ethiopian Ag Extension and Rural Development Professional Association. He is currently a core member of high level task forces for capacity building and developing national strategies and guidelines for agricultural extension system.
Dr Chimdo earned his PHD in agricultural extension education from USA, post-graduate degree from Wagningen University, in the Netherlands, in Agricultural knowledge Management and Social Change, BSc Degree from Haromaya University, in Agricultural Extension and Dip in Plant Science from Hawassa college of Agriculture.
