Gashaw Mengistu, a remarkable human being, leader, family man, Senior Director of Operations at the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency died suddenly and unexpectedly on October 30, 2020. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor, quick smile and laugh, graciousness, and dedication to his work.
While working at the ATA Gashaw was responsible for ensuring that the ATA has the best internal working environment and processes, and effectively engaged with external partners on operational issues. He was also responsible for ensuring the ATA has effective administrative and financial procedures, systems and controls in place to operate effectively and efficiently, and in compliance with government policies and requirements.
Prior to joining ATA, Gashaw was Country Representative of the Johns Hopkins University Centre for Communication Programs (JHU.CCP). He was previously the Project Director of the National AIDS Resource Centre (ARC) funded by the CDC and USAID.
Gashaw’s academic background includes Information Science, Knowledge Management and Leadership and Change.
At the ATA Gashaw was a person everybody looked up to for advices and guidance. He was a person who always treated everyone with the utmost respect and tried to address the concerns of the employees without any biases.
Gashaw was a wonderful leader and a man for all seasons who understood the meaning of the word “team.” He made many great contributions to ATA and helped it move forward in numerous ways. His work here will not soon be forgotten.
