Deputy Chief Executive Officer
Yifru Tafesse (DBL) is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) of the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA). The ATA is a strategy and delivery-oriented government agency created to help accelerate the growth and transformation of the country’s agriculture sector. The ATA envisions that smallholder farmers are commercialized with greater incomes, inclusiveness, resilience, and sustainability, contributing to a transformed agriculture by 2030. The major mandates of the ATA include conducting strategic and analytical studies, providing technical implementation support, coordinating platforms to better integrate partners and projects, designing and directly piloting and leading selected impactful projects. In order to realize those mandate areas, the ATA focuses on two primary approaches: supporting the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), and its federal and regional affiliate institutions, and other partners to identify and address systemic bottlenecks within sector’s development plan. Coordinate and support Regional Governments to accelerate development of high-priority commodity value chains in clearly defined geographic clusters, through the Agricultural Commercialization Clusters (ACC) Program.
In his current role, Yifru is providing direct oversight for all program activities of the Agency at national and sub-national levels. Prior to assuming the DCEO role, he served as the Senior Director of the CEO Office, supporting, and managing the Agricultural Commercialization Cluster (ACC), Communications, Government Relations, Special Projects, and other support functions. Yifru joined the ATA in 2017 as the Director for Private Sector Development. With close to 30 years of work experience, Yifru has served as the Managing Partner and CEO of Adroit Consultancy and Training Services PLC, Director of Marketing at Ahadukes Food Products, and other senior leadership roles with NAS Foods PLC, Summit Beverages, Nyala Insurance, and the Ethiopian Management Institute. He has also served as the post-graduate coordinator and lecturer at the Graduate School of Business Leadership – University of South Africa, and at the Faculty of Business and Economics – Addis Abeba University, Addis Abeba School of Commerce, and Mekelle University.
Yifru received his Doctoral degree in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa, Graduate School of Business Leadership, Bachelor of Art Degree in Management & Public Administration and Master’ in Business Administration (MBA) from Addis Abeba University, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing and Physical Distribution from the Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands.
