Achieving the ATA’s mandate to support the Transformation Agenda requires strong capabilities in areas such as strategic planning, policy analysis, and analytical problem-solving, as well as design and incubation of catalytic interventions. The ATA’s Analytics team acts as the Agency’s strategic advisory and internal consulting function, to ensure world-class capabilities in these areas within the organization. Reporting directly to the CEO, Analytics works closely with other teams at the ATA as well as with key external partners and senior stakeholders in a project-based, client-service model with a focus on client enablement for sustainable impact.
The Analytics team is modeled after top-tier, global strategy consulting firms, and aims to bring the same level of rigor and quality to its work. The team has therefore taken on a number of practices applied in these firms, but adapted to the context of the ATA, the agriculture sector, and Ethiopia. This includes a heavy emphasis on strategic thought-partnership, data-driven analysis, evidence-based recommendations, and applied problem-solving approaches and tools that can identify innovative but pragmatic and implementable solutions to effectively support senior decision-making. As a client-service oriented function, effective project management for rapid execution and delivery is also heavily emphasized within Analytics.
Upwards of 25 projects have been successfully executed by the Analytics team since its inception in 2013, based on demand from internal and external clients. These projects cut across five main thematic areas:
- Strategy development and strategic planning for the overall sector, specific sub-sectors, value chains and other priority topics
- Policy and regulatory analysis
- Institutional, industry structure, organizational and process enhancement
- Business case and business model development
- Program design and incubation
The Analytics team’s work is expected to contribute significantly to successful achievement of the Transformation Agenda, while at the same time building significant new capacity within the sector.
